Academic Excellence
This is our first priority, our reason for being.
Every child deserves an education that will well prepare each child for the
rest of their lives. As we face the budget and tax challenges of the next four years, we need our
most experienced parent on the School Board who will be an advocate for
educational excellence.
Real Educational Opportunities
We do a lot of things very well for some of
our kids, but not every child has those same opportunities. Approximately
one-third of our students do not graduate from high school. We need to work
so that every child receives a high school diploma and is prepared for
college, professional or trade schools, a well paid job, or whatever career
path that child chooses.
Partnerships
Family, community, business, and governmental.
-
Success in school begins at home. Involved families teach students
the value of good education and provide a caring environment in which a
child can learn, grow, and prosper. We need to help those families that are
unable or unwilling to get involved in their schools to see and understand
the importance of strong family support for students.
-
Community support through mentoring, after school programs, athletics,
safety, leadership training, and health and wellness programs are keys to
the success of neighborhood schools.
-
Business partnerships can bring vital resources to our schools through
internships, financial support, and incentive programs that would otherwise
be unavailable and which help to give students a more realistic view of the
real world.
-
Our school system does not exist in a vacuum. We need stronger and
better planning, cooperation, and assistance with the City and County
governments so we can continue or improve programs such as school resource
officers, new sidewalks so children can safely walk to school,
roads and traffic planning, joint use facilities for arts and recreation, and other cooperative ventures.
